Role of Bronchoalveolar Lavage (BAL) Gene Xpert in Diagnosis of PTB in Sputum Smear Negative Patients

The aim of this study was to assess the diagnostic efficacy Xpert MTB/RIF assay in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) diagnosis pulmonary tuberculosis sputum-smear negative patients. This observational case series conducted a tertiary base institute Bangladesh from July 2017 June 2019. All patients with suspected who were negative, irrespective age and gender included study. BAL fluid thus obtained examined smear for acid fast bacilli (AFB) assay. sensitivity, specificity accuracy values calculated AFB identified 33 (36.7%) 90 on final analysis. Fluid culture positive 28 (31.2%) cases. sensitivity 85.7%, 85.5% respectively. likelihood ratio 5.90, 0.167. 85.56%. can be recommended as fruitful tool mycobacterium especially sputum patients.
